Alison Ludlow
The inspiration for Alison's art practice stems from both her personal experiences and perceptions of the world. Combining these elements with her interest in current affairs and topical news stories, the works are often subjective explorations into the enduring themes of relationships, power and social inequalities.
Alison's materials of choice are found images, which are used to create collage works or mixed media constructs. She enjoys both the limitations and freedom that using found materials can bring and the satisfaction of deconstructing something fully formed to recast it into a new story.
At present Alison has been working mainly with fashion and culture magazine cut outs, utilising the visual imagery of both the content and advertising to portray a sense of social surrealism within the collages. The bold minimalist compositions showcase the shape of each piece and are a response to Alison's attraction to the sharp lines and shapes of brutalist architecture.
